There is an optional theme that can be used and prizes are around $300-500 for winners in each category. Entries close annually in June. John Marsden & Hachette Australia Prize for Young Writers http://expressmedia.org.au/programs/john-marsden-prize/ Thie prize is open exclusively to Australian secondary school students. The prize is judged by John Marsden, Express Media and Hachette Australia across the categories of poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction. 2018: Entries close 30th June. Ipswich Poetry Feast http://www.ipswichpoetryfeast.com.au/ The Ipswich Poetry Feast has run since 2003. There are several competition categories for young people aged 5-17, as well as open age categories for general poetry, bush poetry, and local poets. 2017: Entries close 28th July. ETAQ Literary Competition http://www.etaq.org.au/literary-competition.html This competition is open to Queensland teachers, and Queensland students in grades 6-12. 2016: Entries close 22nd July. David Harold Tribe Poetry Prize http://sydney.edu.au/arts/slam/prizes/public_prizes_engl.shtml A big-name prize for poems up to 100 lines in length. Poetry is the competition theme every 5 years. Applications for poetry will next be invited in 2018. |
